Each of us is a note, a melody and a chapter celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of our country. In October 2019, patriotic education activities were carried out all over the country. The members of the 21st Graduate Volunteer Teacher Group of Xiamen University (XMU) actively participated in various activities, strengthening their faith and improving their ideology.

Haiyuan Team, Ningxia

In late September 2019, Haiyuan No. 1 Middle School held a series of activities on League Day to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC). On the afternoon of September 28, 2019, the students held an activity for the elderly residents of a nursing home in Haiyuan County. Gu Chaonan and Zhao Jingwen, two members of the Graduate Volunteer Teacher Group, participated in the activity as well. The teachers and students of Haiyuan No. 1 Middle School cleaned the elderly's rooms, engaged in cordial conversation with them, and put on performances for them, which drew warm applause. The enjoyable day came to an end with a chorus of My Motherland and Me.

In order to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of our motherland, foster patriotism in students and show their positive and enterprising spirit, Haiyuan No. 2 Middle School held an educational activity called National Celebration of China. The activity included a keynote speech entitled Splendid China, displays on classroom blackboards themed Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC, a chorus performance My Motherland and Me, a flag-raising ceremony and singing of the national anthem.

On the morning of October 1, more than 3,700 teachers and students from Haiyuan No.2 Middle School gathered in the school square to hold a flash mob Song of Motherland. The touching song expressed their love and blessings for the motherland. Huang Qing and Peng Mengsi, members of the Graduate Volunteer Teacher Group, actively participated in the preparatory work, contributing greatly to the activity.

On the afternoon of September 30, Jiatang Middle School in Haiyuan County held a singing competition to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC. Two members of the Graduate Volunteer Teacher Group took part in the activity: Fan Huaiyuan served as the judge and Sun Zhongxuan was the conductor. Before the result of the competition was announced, Fan was warmly invited by the teachers and students to present a gift to the motherland in the form of the song The Country.

Longde Team, Ningxia

The Longde Team of the 21st Graduate Volunteer Teacher Group of XMU visited counties and districts of Guyuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region to carry out publicity activities with the theme My Motherland and Me. The activities, held from September 23 to 25, celebrated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, praised New China and promoted forging ahead into the new era. Over the past 21 years, the Graduate Volunteer Teacher Group of XMU have made great contributions in Ningxia. Their persistent efforts were recounted to over 1,100 League members and representatives of the general public through a series of short stories. Together they also looked back on the great changes and achievements that have taken place since the founding of the PRC 70 years ago.

Ejina Team, Inner Mongolia

The Ejina Team of the 21st Graduate Volunteer Teacher Group of XMU sang My Motherland and Me together with the students of Ejina Middle School to wish the motherland a happy 70th birthday. The members of the Ejina Team determined to remain true to their original aspiration and keep the mission firmly in mind, and to strive to undertake responsibility in order to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

On the occasion of the 70th birthday of our motherland, the 21st Graduate Volunteer Teacher Group of XMU vowed to continue to uphold the spirit of “dedication, fraternity, mutual support and progress” and adhere to the XMU motto "PursueExcellence, Strive for Perfection". Through taking responsibility and combining their dreams with the great Chinese Dream, these students continue to compose a song of a new era by contributing their youth to Western China.
